Choosing a rule preset

Four Winds uses by default the European Classical rule preset which serves well as an introduction to the game of Mah Jong.

You can easily change the rules by selecting any of the over 20 pre-defined rule presets. In addition of European rules, Four Winds fully supports the modern versions of Chinese, Japanese, Australian and American Mah Jong. Several European national versions are supported, as well.

To choose a rule preset:
  1. Quit an on-going game, if applicable.
  2. Choose Preferences on the File menu.
  3. From the Rule Presets list at the top of the Preferences dialog box, select a rule preset you wish to use.
  4. Click OK to close the dialog box.

Tip: Since the Rule presets list stays visible disregarding of the selected option group, you can easily compare the different rules. First choose any of the items in the list, leave the focus in the list and use up and down arrow keys to move in the list.
