Welcome to
Four Winds Mah Jong
Knowledge Base
The purpose of this site is to provide comprehensive information on the
history, symbolism and rules of Mah Jong.
While there are hundreds of
local versions of the game,
this site concentrates on the major versions of the game as it is
currently played around the world.
We believe that there is need for
such a general review of the game, at least amongst the Western audience,
which is largely ignorant of the tradition and modern developments of the
game and might find the sporadic information available on the Internet
confusing.
This site is part of the Four Winds Mah Jong web site,
developed by Lagarto, the authors of the popular
computer game Four Winds Mah Jong. The information provided is based on
knowledge that is gathered within a several years long game development
project with close co-operation with hundreds of Mah Jong players around
the world.
