Scoring variations

Kong scoring chart (Chinese Official rules)

The following chart shows the method Four Winds 2.09 uses to calculate scores for complex Kong hands. The point examples are for Chinese Official rules.

The chart is created by the player community that uses Chinese Official rules and applied in Four Winds despite its inherent logical flaws, because these rules are the only world-wide rules where these kinds of complex pattern calculation combinations are likely to appear so the weaknesses of the scoring method are not likely to be an issue for any other rules.

The major difference from the method that was used in versions earlier than 2.09 is that patterns containing melded Kongs no longer accumulate in higher Kong patterns. Also, the way the patterns Concealed Kong and Two Concealed Kongs can co-exist with other patterns, differs from the regular inclusion logic used in Four Winds and done according to Chinese Official rules (as interpreted by the community: the official sources do not specify explicitly how Kongs should be scored).

46

      Three Kongs + Two concealed Kongs + Pung hand = 32 + 8 + 6  pts.

54

      Three Kongs + Three concealed triplets + Pung hand = 32 + 16 + 6  pts.
NOTE:  This hand scores less than Three Kongs (two concealed and one melded) + concealed Pung that scores 62 pts. This is because Two concealed Kongs is not applied if the Kongs already get scores for Three concealed triplets.
