Using menu commands to arrange discards
Four Winds allows you to display the discarded tiles in many different ways.
The default setting for displaying discards is specified with the Discards
option on the General option page of the Rules section (in the Preferences
dialog box) and saved with the rules, but you can override this setting by
using the following menu commands.
Note: Most of the following menu commands are available only if the
option allowing this operation is checked on the Gameplay option page of
the Preferences dialog box.
The
available options depend on the active board size.
Display options for Basic Boards A to D with separate views (640x480,
800x600, 1024x768 and 1200x800 pixels)
- To display the discards separately for each player, click the View menu,
open the Discards sub menu and choose Per Player in One Area.
The discarded tiles are shown in a separate view in four areas divided by a thin
separating line.
- To display the discards ordered one after another in one area common to all players, click the View menu,
open the Discards sub menu and choose All in One Common Area.
The discarded tiles are shown in a separate view in the order the tiles have been
discarded.
- To display the discards in random order in one area common to all players, click the View menu,
open the Discards sub menu and choose In Random
Order.
The discarded tiles are shown in a separate view in random order.
- To alternate between the Hands and Discards view, click the appropriate button on the
Status bar (the label changes according to the selected view).
- To display the discards in a miniature window, choose Discards
Window on the View menu. You can roll up the window (minimize it
to its title bar) by double clicking the title bar. To use a magnifier, hold down the
SHIFT key. When the discards are arranged by player, you can also widen the
window by clicking the right arrow button on the title bar. This lets you
view all discards in normal size. To restore the narrower window, click the
left arrow button on the title bar.
- To lock the discards, choose Lock Discards on the Options menu.
This forces a mixed view: for opponents, the discarded tiles are shown, and for yourself,
the hand tiles and melded tiles are shown. This allows you to keep the view between the
views. Otherwise the Hands view is automatically activated each time you receive a tile
from the Wall or claim a discard.
