Downloads – Program Files

You can get the program files by doing the following:

  • If you have already registered, you can download either one of the complete setup packages from the section A below, or if you have a slow connection, get the actual program files first by downloading the bare essentials package from the section B, and get the additional themes, tile sets and the tutorial at a later stage.
  • If you do NOT have a version 2.x license yet, the only option is to download the version 2.01 setup package for evaluation from the section C below.

The same package is used for all supported Windows operating system versions (Windows 95/98/Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10, excluding Windows 10 S, unless upgraded to Windows Pro). Note however that if you have older Windows operating system (e.g., Windows 95/98/Me), you need to download and install first one of the full setup packages, and then download the support module available on the Optional modules page.

Note: The setup packages use Microsoft Windows Installer technology. If you use Windows NT 4.0, you need to have service pack 6 installed to be able to use these setup packages.

Note to Windows Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8 users:  The latest version of Four Winds can display context help even if WinHlp32.exe is not installed, but since the WinHelp module supports rich formatting (e.g. bold text), Windows Vista / Wíndows 7 / Windows 8 users might prefer to use the old Windows Help format and download WinHlp32.exe for Windows Vista or WinHlp32.exe for Windows 7 or WinHlp32.exe for Windows 8 from Microsoft's site (search the download address with Internet search engine by using "WinHlp32.exe for Windows Vista" or "WinHlp32.exe for Windows 7"  or "WinHlp32.exe for Windows 8" as a keyword). Microsoft does not recommend use of WinHlp32.exe on Windows 10 or 11 (even if it runs on it, once it is manually installed: there is no Microsoft installation routine at the moment).

If you have not registered, you can download a test version from the section C.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that your ISP or spam mail filter does not block e-mail from lagarto.fi or kolumbus.fi addresses since support e-mail normally proceeds from these domain names (and not necessarily from 4windsmj.com). If you do not receive e-mail you have been asking, please check your e-mail settings (and more specifically, if our mail is in your spam mail box).

    File size: 3 693 KB / Date: September-12-2002 – Download now

Note: If you wish to use the multiplayer features, you need Microsoft DirectX v. 6.0 or later. DirectX is not included in the online setup packages but comes with the system if you have Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10. If you have an older system and need to have DirectX, you can download the latest version from Microsoft's Download Center. Type "DirectX" in the Search box, and select "DirectX End-user Runtime update" from the list of found products.

Note to users who do not have Microsoft Internet Explorer installed on their system: the game includes a comprehensive documentation which is based on Microsoft’s HTML Help – a system that requires that version 4.0 or later of Microsoft Internet Explorer is installed.

If you do not have Microsoft Internet Explorer installed (and do not bother to download it, either), you can access the online documentions by choosing Four Winds Online Documentation on the Help menu of Four Winds.
