Scoring

Basic tile points

The table below shows the bonuses paid in point (fu) unit for the basic tile sets and for certain special ways of going out. In versions where losers pay each other according to the difference of their final scores, these points are normally calculated for all players (excluding the last ten patterns, for which only the winner gets payment). In modern Chinese versions no points are normally paid for the basic tile sets. The only available scoring unit in this category is the point unit.

Note that points for the patterns of this category are often combined with an equivalent doubling (faan/han) pattern in another category. E.g., if a player has a concealed Pung of Dragons, he may get first 8 points (fu) for a Pung of Dragons as specified in the Basic points category and then 1 double (faan/han) for Pung of Dragons, specified in the Basic sets category. The point scores of the Basic points category are added even if the point scoring unit is used for an equivalent pattern in another category.

Also, note that these points are always paid for sets that appear in regular hands only (e.g., a player cannot get scores for a pair in irregular hands like Thirteen Orphans).
